Hi,
I recently discovered this site. I particularly like the images used from Pool of Radiance, Bard's Tale, + Phantasie.
Just curious about the rpg radio. I tried clicking the listen now link but there is no sound. Are there specific time/hours which music will play? and if so what are the hours/time zone? Or is the radio down permanently?

I know the owner has had connectivity issues with his provider he has been battling for a few weeks now, but I can say for sure that RPG Radio is far from dead

I know the thread is a bit old but I wanted to chime in with some notes if anyone else noticed a silent stream.
If you open the stream in a fresh install of VLC (tested on both my linux and Windows 7 machines) the stream will have no sound. Looking at the message logs it notes that there are multiple ADTS blocks per frame, which is unsupported. No idea what that really means, but Google mentions VLC issues with some AAC audio.
The stream works perfectly in Winamp of course, so that can fix problems if you can listen via that.
My sadness comes from the fact that my XBMC media center also seems to exhibit the silent treatment. It progresses along through tracks, but no audio is heard. I think XBMC uses mplayer, but I haven't had time to test on any other systems.
This all started to happen right around the time you had some downtime, so I'm not sure if the stream format has changed or what has occurred. In any case, I hope in the future I can move back to VLC to listen; I do miss RPG Radio at work.
In the end, I listen any way I can and thank you so much for your time and energy in keeping the station going. Thank you!

Hi Aalok,
Thank you for posting!
I changed the stream over to AAC because it seemed to be more stable that way. Transmitting as MP3, the shoutcast server would crash alot. It still happens though and usually it happens if too long of a timeout occurs between where I am transmitting from and the server that shoutcast is running on.
Sometimes it lasts for days, other times it lasts for 5 minutes. I can try switching back to MP3 transmission for the heck of it just to see what happens but I can't promise it will stay that way.

Also, I noticed it apparently crashed again. I just restarted it this morning.
Oh well. It'll have to wait until I get home from work.

When I was testing things I did note that AAC works with VLC, just not the RPG Radio stream. I had just loaded up a random station from ShoutCast that listed as an AAC format and it was working without issues.
The crashing note is kind of interesting. I wouldn't expect one format to crash more frequently than another. I don't know a lot about streaming but I'd be glad to help you try to stabilize things if you need.

Yeah, I wouldn't think it would matter either. It might be that one is more tolerant of time-outs than the other.
I never really knew why my local app would crash until the other day when I happened to be pinging my server because it was acting strange and whenever I dropped a few pings, my winamp crashed.
There have been times when playing a track that was too short, like a little blip or beep from some game, it didn't like that either so I had to either pad the mp3 with dead space or just temporarily remove it until I did.
That's not the only time it crashes though, but it was one of them.
I ran home for lunch and restarted the stream in MP3 mode so we'll see how it goes.

How has stability been since the switch to MP3? I've listened for a few hours and wanted to make sure you're not having super frequent crashes.
I also wanted to say thanks for the stream swap. It's so nice to be listening at work again.

Its seems to be running ok. I had a crash but it was due to a system lock-up.
