Genre:
Assassin’s Creed II and AC Brotherhood are 3rd person Action/Adventure games set during the late 1400’s in and around Italy. There are some Role Playing and City Building Elements as well just to spice things up. AC Brotherhood also adds a multiplayer element, more on that later.
Story:
The story centers around the assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze. It covers his adventures and progresses the storyline of the Assassin’s Creed universe through what would be the 2nd installment (Both AC II and Brotherhood follow Ezio). Story wise Assassin’s Creed is a mix of The Davinci Code and The Matrix. It has a twisting plot with all kinds of conspiracies and is quite entertaining, of course the Animus (the way the main Character Desmond who is also present in AC 1 relives his ancestors memories) is where the Matrix comes in since technically none of what you are doing is actually happening and is being relived via the Animus machine in 2012.
Gameplay and Controls:
The gameplay and controls, I think, are very well done. Comparatively speaking I went on to play Tron : Evolution right after I was done with AC Brotherhood and felt like I was constrained, limited and in less control of my character. Tron’s controls really aren’t that bad, it’s just that AC’s controls and gameplay are that good. If you have played the first Assassin’s Creed, the controls are very similar. You do get some extra toys to play with though like a double blade for your hidden blade which lets you kill two people at once, a small firearm inside the hidden blade. Brotherhood also adds a crossbow to the mix. There are some minor gameplay elements that differentiate the 2 episodes (II and Brotherhood) but nothing so drastic as to give a separate rating and review. All in all, Gameplay and Controls get a thumbs up from me.
Graphics and Sound:
The graphics and sound are what you would expect from a current generation title which is very good. The layout and attention to detail in the textures and all the maps and historical locations is astounding. The sound good, I have listened to the soundtrack separately, however when you are running for your life or focusing on completing the various missions, it is hard to concentrate on how good the music is, which is a shame because it is quite good.
Conclusion:
I had a great deal of fun playing Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. They are both excellent games. The only thing that I didn’t care for is the multiplayer added to AC Brotherhood. AC is known as a single player game. Why they felt the need (other than everyone else is doing it) to add Multiplayer to the recipe for success is beyond me, at least it was only in the second one. I have every Xbox achievement for AC II, and 80 some % of them for Brotherhood, I doubt I will ever get the remaining ones. As hard core gamer, I don’t have time to spend anymore weeks or months on crazy multiplayer achievements, I need to move onto my next conquest. It’s only a slight issue but one that bugs me none the less. If they would have added the Multiplayer but left all the achievements and trophies in single player, I would have no problem with it. But I digress… In conclusion, the second chapter in the AC storyline (which spans 2 games) are very well done games and I highly recommend BOTH of them.
I give them
