This is my review for the Sony PSP game Untold Legends: Warrior's Code.
Genre:
This game is an action-adventure rpg game with real time combat. I played this game of the Sony PSP Slim, which this portable console has the ability to be connected to a TV verses the original Sony PSP portable console.
Story:
I felt the story was pretty good. It wasn't a lengthy story to follow, but it did have a surprise twist in there along the way. You could talk to the other characters and they would give you some lore to progress the story line further along. It wasn't cheesy although there was one character that was a little annoying, but over all it had a good story to follow through the chapters as you progressed through the game.
Game play and Controls:
The gameplay was pretty solid and straight forward. A basic dungeon crawl, the same setup as Diablo and Dungeon Seige. I could figure out the game how things worked, changing and upgrading of equipment and abilities. The controls themselves were fairly easy to understand also. You could change assignment on the special abilities when needed. One concern I do have is the joystick control movement, that got tiresome if you had a lengthy fight, which wasn't often but the sometimes a boss fight came along and depending on the strategy you used while using the joystick motion was tiring. But overall the controls were setup nicely. One trick you could do is save and reload at the merchant. By doing so sometimes you could get lucky to get a better item you might be looking for. Overall strategy wasn't really necessary in this case. You could have a simple or basic strategy to use throughout the game play. Mine happened to be equipping myself with items that had health regeneration on them and I'd cycle through upgrades that added more health regeneration. This was nice and was a benefit in the dungeon crawl as well as the boss fights.
Graphics and Sound:
The music, let me start there. I think throughout the whole game there might have been about 5 different tunes, if that. It was mainly the same kind of music, didn't feel like it changed to much. After a while I think I pretty much tuned out the sounds except for the fighting and the talking parts. The graphics for it being on a portable console were good. I could tell my character and the mobs. I could see the floors and walls decor in the various areas. Nothing spectacular, just decent for the game play.
Conclusion:
It is a pretty simple hack and slash game going straight through, there are no detours or other secondary events. Just follow the story line from point A to point B. I was able to follow the story and enjoyed it as I played through. The special abilities were nice, you had a few options and assignments you could do. You also had an ability to become a changeling, however, not sure when it was really necessary to use this form, but from time to time I would change and have some fun. It had a challenge here and there, and it also had a twist which made it interesting.
I enjoyed going through this game.
I give it a [glow=red,2,300]6 of 7[/glow] pieces of the rod!
